RAYMOND OZOJI reports
Dr. Jude Okechukwu Emecheta, a media consultant and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra state has commended Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo's gas pipeline initiative for electricity generation to engender industrialisation in the state.
Emecheta who congratulated the governor on his second term inauguration during an exclusive interview with this journalist in Awka, maintained that Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo would be the best governor in the world, if he actualises the gas pipeline agenda as he believes only steady electricity supply can guarantee industrialisation and massive job creation for the citizenry.
He believes that If Anambra state has a gas pipeline, the crave to seek for jobs in Lagos and Abuja will end because there will be industries in the state.
Although he pointed out that the problem of Anambra indigenes who want to build industries in the state is power and road infrastructure, he was equally convinced that if there is power and road network, a lot of industries will come to Anambra state.
The APC chieftain also disclosed that the governor has agreed with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to dredge the River Niger; this according to him, would help to decongest other seaports across the country and also make Onitsha seaport active and functional even as he emphasized the need for a coalition with federal government agencies to realise the project.
Apart from the gas pipeline masterplan, Emecheta also endorsed Governor Soludo's fight against occultic lifestyles amongst youths whom he said were neck deep in get-rich-quick syndrome through conjuring alligators and all manner of rituals to make quick wealth.
He explained that the governor's clampdown on occultic individuals who called themselves native doctors is a bold step in the right direction because it is helping to rescue youths from the captivity of fake native doctors and restoring their dignity through genuine hard work and perseverance.
Emecheta who was a former Managing Director of the Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA), observed that Governor Soludo has tried to open up Anambra State with massive road construction. He equally observed that the governor was not just constructing roads but constructing roads with walkways thereby giving the entire state a different aesthetics.
On the Onitsha Main Market saga, Emecheta believes that the governor's decision to pull down parts of the market was absolutely right because Onitsha main market, according to him, was no longer the way it used to be after the civil war.
The Anambra APC stalwart recalled with hindsight that Onitsha main market used to have parking lots and spaces for people to move freely in the market but today, according to him, people have erected clusters of shops indiscriminately such that there are no more spaces for people to walk freely inside the market let alone park vehicles.
He was however of the opinion that Governor Soludo should bring down Onitsha main market and rebuild it in partitions to give it its deserving status, adding that other markets like the Oba Drug Market springing up are all efforts that will have direct positive impact on the citizenry.
Emecheta who alluded to Governor Soludo's proposed rail line and air port projects, maintained that Ndi-Anambra should support the governor to enable him realise his laudable second term development agenda for the state while reinforcing his position that Anambra needs a gas pipeline to generate her own electricity for the state's proposed industrial layout to come to fruition.
