The Board of Trustees of Amichi Community Association (ACA) Nnewi-South Local Government Area of Anambra State has implored all warring factions in Amichi Town Union leadership crisis to sheath their swords and observe a compulsory truce while court determines the matter before it.
ACA in a press statement jointly signed by Chief Dom Nwobi, Mr. Josephat Ezike, Mr. Jude Nwankwo, Mr. Innocent Onwuelu, Chief Francis Okafor, Sir Chika Nwagbo, Sir Elo Abattam and Mr. Akachukwu Okoliowa, observed with keen interest that the town union leadership crisis is tearing the community apart and everything seems to be falling apart because the centre can no longer hold.
ACA whose 8-point resolution was contained in the press statement made available to journalists, made it unequivocally clear that Amichi town will not be plunged into the abyss because of the selfish interest of a select few as the association believes that Amichi is bigger than a personal or group interest.
The association therefore made its position sufficiently clear in the statement that the status quo in Amichi town union leadership should be maintained in the interim pending the verdict of the court.
That rather than have a festival of dissenting voices in the community, it will be most beneficial to them should they unite against violence, intimidation, lawlessness and all forms of destructive confrontations.
The resolutions of the ACA Board of Trustees as ratified by the members reads, " For the avoidance of doubt, the position of the Board of Trustees of Amichi Community Association is as follows: We recognise and respect the authority of the courts and shall abide by lawful court orders.
We support the maintenance of the status quo ante bellum as directed by the Honourable Court pending determination of the substantive suit.
We support the tenure elongation of Chief Cletus Udebuani as President by the Hon Commissioner pending the judicial determination of the dispute, in accordance with the prevailing court order and applicable law.
Where a lawful Caretaker Committee becomes necessary, ACA supports an inclusive arrangement in which the Association is appropriately represented.
We reject violence, intimidation, lawlessness and all forms of destructive confrontation.
We support the Government of Anambra State and the developmental vision of Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
We call for unity, peace, reconciliation and sustainable development in Amichi.
We call on every son and daughter of Amichi, irrespective of political affiliation, age, status or faction, to remember that Amichi is bigger than any individual, group or temporary political disagreement.
Leadership positions are transient. Community institutions and the future of our children are permanent.
Let us therefore put the collective interest of Amichi above personal ambitions.
Let us allow the courts to determine the legal questions before them.
Let us allow government to perform its constitutional and administrative responsibilities.
Let us allow our traditional institutions and community stakeholders to promote reconciliation. Above all, let us give peace a chance.
The Board of Trustees of Amichi Community Association remains committed to a peaceful, united, progressive and prosperous Amichi.
We believe that a peaceful Amichi is a developing Amichi, and a united Amichi is an unstoppable Amichi."
