Anambra Polls: Oba Community Disowns APC, ADC, YPP, Others, Settles For APGA

RAYMOND OZOJI reports

Oba community in Idemili-South Local Government Area of Anambra State have publicly disowned the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Labour Party, Young Progressive Party (YPP), the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other political parties in the forthcoming November 8th governorship election in the state but decided to settle for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) because APGA, according to them, has brought good governance to Anambra State and Oba community is a beneficiary.

Oba youths, the traditional ruler and his cabinet and stakeholders of Oba community who made their positions manifest at the community's endorsement rally for Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo and his Deputy Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim on Thursday, made it abundantly clear that Oba will not vote for other candidates or political parties except Professor Soludo and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Idemili-South Mayor Dr. Mrs. Amaka Obi, Ikenna Iyiegbu (Ike-Cubana), the President-General of Oba community Engr. Anthony Uzo Ejiofor and others who spoke at the rally stated categorically that Governor Soludo won't lose a single vote in Oba because he is their consensus candidate and they have no apologies for it.

Ikenna Iyiegbu, an APGA stronghold and stakeholder in Oba community and Anambra at large, in his speech, acknowledged that Soludo's visit to Oba community was the first time a governor visited the town after Jim Nwobodo's administration in the 80s.

Iyiegbu also noted that Governor Soludo doled out N3.5 Billion to Anambra youths who graduated from government's one youth two skills empowerment programme, adding that Soludo's transformative governance radiated in the health, education, road construction and other sectors.

He emphasized that the entire Oba people have spoken that Soludo is the only candidate in the election and that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is also the only political party in the said election, pointing out that no other political parties existed in Oba except APGA where the entire Oba will vote overwhelmingly to ensure landslide victory for the Soludo-Ibezim Mandate.

Idemili-South Mayor, Hon. Dr. Mrs. Amaka Obi, in her remarks, equally affirmed that Oba people have unanimously agreed that no single vote would be lost to the opposition, stressing that there is only one political party in Anambra State which is the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and that Oba community would garner about 40,000 votes for the reelection of the governor and his deputy.

The President-General of Oba community Engr. Anthony Uzo Ejiofor, who took cognizance of Soludo's efforts in the entire state, pleaded that it was the turn of Oba community to be attended to. He therefore drew the attention of the governor to a road in the community, said to be of strategic importance to them and implored the governor to help them fix the road to foster interconnectivity in the area.

Moreso, the State Statistician-General, Hon. Obiora Obiabummuo, who hails from Oba, said Governor Soludo has lived up to his promises to Ndi-Anambra, judging from his achievements in security, infrastructure, youth empowerment schemes, skill acquisitions and a host of others. He assured the governor that Oba community will surprise him with the magnitude of votes he would get on November 8th this year.

Governor Soludo while thanking Oba community for the grand reception cum massive endorsement rally in his honour, assured Oba people that apart from the largest drug market being built in the community, the Umuoji-Oba-Akwu-Ukwu road which they requested for would be constructed and the situation ameliorated.
