RAYMOND OZOJI reports
Despite alleged failed attempts to deregister the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), the Anambra state chairman of the party Rt. Hon. Ikem Uzoezie has declared that NDC is still a registered political party in Nigeria and it is very much determined to dislodge the ruling APC government next year.
Uzoezie who spoke to this journalist exclusively about the status of the party, maintained that NDC is intact and that the other meddlesome interloper was a mere political association not a political party. He therefore explained that before any group could attain the status of a political party, it must be registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He further disclosed that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) became a full-fleshed registered political party after a court judgement this year which compelled INEC to register NDC, pointing out that they have not been deregistered ever since except for some meddlesome interloper by way of judicial summersaults in Kogi state which he said NDC has currently appealed and applied for stay of execution.
Uzoezie noted that NDC has received the code to upload names and profiles of NDC candidates onto INEC portal, stressing that for the records, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is still a registered political party within the framework of Nigerian law.
Uzoezie equally informed that there are no controversies surrounding NDC presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi and that his profile has been uploaded onto INEC portal. He said Obi is flying the party's flag alongside his vice presidential running mate Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso.
According to him, there are no controversies whatsoever surrounding Obi's personality because he is the man of the moment and major contender in next year's presidential election.
The Anambra NDC chairman noted that the party's presidential flag bearer has been consulting round the country selling his manifesto and programmes of a new Nigeria under his watch.
He was however optimistic that NDC would defeat the ruling APC government next year at the polls even as he said that NDC can not be distracted or disenfranchised by any ploy or plot of antagonists as what the people are witnessing today are elements trying to constitute a cog in the wheel of progress.
He was of the opinion that if Mr. Peter Obi, the NDC presidential candidate is not a formidable opposition, there would be no reason at all for his antagonists to be running helter skelter to stop him by all means necessary; emphasizing that Peter Obi is the candidate to beat in the presidential election next year.
Uzoezie was also positive that apart from the presidential election, NDC will win all her elections in the senate, house of representatives and state assemblies respectively.
