Honourable Onyekachukwu Augustine Ike PhD, the lawmaker representing Nnewi-North state constituency has stated that the people of Nnewi will not tolerate any of desecration and disrespect to the traditional ruler of Nnewi ancient kingdom, His Royal Highness Igwe Kenneth Orizu.
Ike who spoke to this journalist about the alleged disenfranchisement of Nnewi-Ichi community to produce the next chairman of Nnewi-North Local Government Area, said personally he has zero tolerance to any form disrespect to Igwe Nnewi, adding that wherever the traditional ruler stands on any issue is where the community stands.
The lawmaker explained that it was a taboo for Nzukora-Nnewi, the community town union to have written a counter letter to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo concerning what community produces the next chairman of the council area, when the traditional ruler had earlier written to the governor explaining to him that Nnewi-North has a single term rotational system for elective offices by way of written agreement which makes it the turn of Nnewi-Ichi community to produce the next local government chairman.
He said all the counter letters written to the governor were misleading but the truth of the matter remains that the entire community is with the traditional ruler in accordance with equity and fairness, stressing that Nnewi-Ichi community won't be shortchanged.
According to him, Nzukora-Nnewi has no right whatsoever to rebel against the traditional ruler or kick against the decisions of the reverred monarch of Nnewi because it is subject to the throne. He said as it stands at the moment, the people of Nnewi no longer recognises the presence of Nzukora-Nnewi because it seized to exist the day it began to contest the decisions of the traditional ruler of Nnewi Igwe Kenneth Orizu.
Ike who disclosed that he was very instrumental to the emergence of the incumbent chairman of Nnewi-North Local Government Area, noted that the current chairman was sworn-in to serve a single tenure of two years and exit for Nnewi-Ichi to produce the next chairman.
He said every institution that is supposed to checkmate the excesses of the chairman are working for him against the collective will of the people and that the community town union Nzukora-Nnewi has become his stooge even as he alleged that the President-General of Nzukora-Nnewi has been successfully impeached by the people of Nnewi for tempering with the constitution of the land to enable the local government chairman get a second term as against the agelong single term rotational agreement in the area.
