2027: Why Aguata 1 Constituents Endorsed Me For A Second Term -- Okpalaeke

RAYMOND OZOJI reports

The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee Chairman on Education and member representing Aguata 1 state constituency, Hon. Anayo Emmanuel Okpalaeke, has explained in details why the people of Aguata-South unanimously endorsed him for a second term in office as his first term winds up.

Okpalaeke who is the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the February 6, 2027 state assembly elections, told this journalist that having critically appraised his first term performance, the people of Aguata 1 state constituency took a collective decision to return him again to continue his stewardship in the House of Assembly.

He said they assessed his interventions in education, healthcare, poverty alleviation programmes, infrastructure and some other critical areas and arrived at a consensus opinion that the reward for good work is more work; hence his victory at the APGA primary election was the collective will and decision of the people that his projects and programmes have earned him another term in office.

The lawmaker said that he carried out intervention programmes ranging from construction of modern toilet facilities at Girls' High School Uga, construction of catchment pits to curb erosions, construction of a staircase leading to an ancient stream called Ezegoro as well as the rehabilitation of borehole water facilities at Achina and Umuchu communities respectively.

The lawmaker also disclosed that he targeted the poorest of the poor amongst market women across the six communities that comprised Aguata 1 constituency and empowered them with cash grants to invest in their businesses in order to sustain their respective families even as he further disclosed that he registered over 200 constituents in the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme where they enjoy highly subsidized healthcare services coupled with annual constituency football competitions.

Okpalaeke who told this journalist that he also organized constituency townhall meetings to keep his people abreast of the goings on in the House of Assembly, maintained that he equally embarked on a constituency wide deworming medical mission where he bought about 10,000 doses of Zentel tab to deworm school children in the constituency.

He therefore added that his desire to deworm children in the area was borne out of the sympathy and compassion he had for a little child he met on a hospital bed and on inquiry to know what was wrong with the child, he was told that the child had complications as a result of not being dewormed for the past 7 years.

He said he took it upon himself to ensure that children in the area do not suffer such complications due to poverty and lack of means to access quality healthcare; so he embarked on the mission to deworm children in his constituency, emphasizing that more of such missions would be carried out, if he is elected next year to represent the constituency.
