As the Anambra State 8th legislature holds her 3rd anniversary on Friday June 12 this year, lawmakers say that the current legislature is the best thing that ever happened to the state especially with the enactment of the Anambra State Homeland Security Law and other laws that have engendered economic growth and advancement in the state.
Some lawmakers who spoke to this journalist exclusively at the House of Assembly complex Awka yesterday, stated that apart from the positive impacts of the Homeland Security Law and other legislations enacted by the current legislature, the 8th assembly has equally helped Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo to succeed in the administration and governance of the state.
Anayo Emmanuel Okpalaeke, the lawmaker representing Aguata 1 state constituency and chairman House of Assembly Committee on Education, told this journalist that the Homeland Security Law enacted by the 8th assembly has fought insecurity head-on and entrenched peace in the state.
Okpalaeke recalled that it was very difficult to campaign across the state prior to their elections let alone moving around and the citizens, according to him, were agitating for peace to be restored, hence the making of the Homeland Security Law after they were elected into office.
Okpalaeke who is also candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the 2027 House of Assembly elections, noted that Governor Soludo had backing of the 8th legislature which enabled him to aggressively fight insecurity with the instrumentality of the Homeland Security Law, to a standstill, noting that the 8th assembly in the last three years has done noble in terms of legislation and representation.
On the other hand, Onyekachukwu Augustine Ike PhD who is the member representing Nnewi-North state constituency, said the 8th assembly has made good laws and has also done the bid of Anambra citizens by making laws that have accelerated economic growth and social security.
Ike noted that the 8th legislature has been very supportive of the governor to enable him pilot affairs of the state successfully which he said is evident in the passage of executive bills brought by the governor to the House of Assembly.
According to him, the 8th assembly is not at loggerheads with the executive arm so that development will not be delayed instead it has assisted the governor through cordial relations for him to meet the expectations of Ndi-Anambra.
