Udogachi, SASA Allegedly Kill Only Son At Mgbakwu Community

RAYMOND OZOJI reports

Barely few days ago, reports had it that the Udogachi security team invaded a social gathering organized by Kegite Club at PICCATEL hotel Awka; beating  and inflicting injuries on participants at the meeting, who scampered for safety while the Udogachi security operatives shot sporadically into the air causing commotion in the hotel.

While citizens wondered what could have necessitated the invasion at PICCATEL hotel Awka, the Udogachi team alongside the Special Anti-tout Squad called SASA on 30th April this year, about 8pm invaded Amaeze village in Mgbakwu Awka-North Local Government Area of the state and allegedly killed 26 year old Chinyeaka Ike a.k.a Akidi, an only son whose wife is heavily pregnant coupled with a sick aged mother.

Further investigations in Mgbakwu community revealed that it was not the first time an innocent life was taken in the area. That sometime last year, a woman was killed during an invasion by security operatives in the community.

The killing of Chinyeaka Ike sparked off outrage in Mgbakwu community on 1st May, 2026 as the entire community took to the streets in protest against the gruesome killing of their brother by the Udogachi/SASA security team.

The protesters who carried the remains of late Chinyeaka Ike to the new government house (Light House), maintained that no incriminating items were found with him. That the security operatives wasted the life of the young man without batting an eyelid.

One of the protesters who identified himself as Arinze Nwoye alleged that operatives of SASA and Udogachi stormed Mgbakwu community arresting young men going about their legitimate engagements.

Nwoye explained that the deceased and one other youth attempted to run away on seeing the security operatives but were chased during which Chinyeaka was shot and later gave up the ghost.

Another protester Mr. Michael Obidigwe recalled that similar incidents had occurred in the past where a woman was equally killed during a security operation last year.

While the protesters appealed to Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo to institute a comprehensive investigation into the killing of Chinyeaka Ike to forestall further extrajudicial killings, the Chief of Staff to the governor, Chief Ben Nwankwo, assured Mgbakwu people that the state government has directed the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to commence full scale investigation to unravel circumstances surrounding the killing of Chinyeaka Ike, urging the protesters not to take the laws into their own hands.

Meanwhile special adviser to the governor on community security, Mr. Ken Emeakayi, described the killing of Chinyeaka Ike as rather unfortunate and informed that the governor has requested that some representatives of the protesters meet with government officials for a peaceful dialogue

Emeakayi therefore assured the protesters that government will consider their concerns especially as it relates to the deceased's pregnant wife and his aged mother.
