Families affected by road construction demolitions at Nnobi community of Idemili-South Local Government Area of Anambra State, will in no distant time shed tears of joy and jubilation as plans are underway to rescue them from displacements and homelessness.
It would be recalled that ancestral homes, family houses, shops and properties worth millions of naira were reduced to rubbles recently at Nnobi community rendering hundreds of people homeless as well as reduced them to refugees in their own community without immediate remedial actions by the state government.
However joy is coming for victims of the catastrophe as the Chairman of Umuike-echem village Ndam Ngo-Nnobi, Hon. Ochiagha Chinonso Solomon, revealed to journalists at the 2026 New Yam Celebration of High Chief Ikechukwu Azugo (Okenwa Idemili), that Okenwa Idemili plans to build new houses for those whose houses were demolished due to road constructions in the area.
Ochiagha who described Okenwa Idemili as philanthropist of a kind, said his impact on Nnobi community and Idemili-South can not be overemphasized as he has touched lives and uplifted humanity in remarkable ways especially with the most recent empowerment of 19 university students with scholarships, stressing that the 19 beneficiaries were drawn from the 4 kindreds of Umuike-echem village.
Meanwhile President-General Nnobi Welfare Organisation, Chief Sir Aloysius Olubialu (Nwachinemelu), in his interview, rained eulogies on High Chief Ikechukwu Azugo, saying that apart from his humane and humble disposition, Okenwa Idemili is also public-spirited as portrayed in his works of charity and philanthropy.
Olubialu noted that Okenwa Idemili's new yam celebration depicted an exhibition of the Igbo culture in its grandeur. That it is not fetish neither does it have any diabolic or ritual undertones rather it is a form of thanksgiving to God for bountiful harvest even as he commended Okenwa Idemili for preserving and promoting Igbo cultural heritage through his epic new yam festival.
High Chief Ikechukwu Azugo (Okenwa Idemili) while cutting the new yam, prayed for longevity and prosperity for all who attended the new yam festival held in his palatial mansion at Umuike-echem village Ndam Ngo-Nnobi. He thanked God for the bountiful harvest and also prayed for another year of fruitful farming season.
Okenwa Idemili's new yam celebration was attended by Nnobi traditional ruler, Idemili-South Mayor Hon. Dr. Mrs. Amaka Obi, the Mayor-elect Hon. Oluchukwu Ilogbenu (Olutech), APGA House of Representatives candidate for Idemili-North and South federal constituency election Hon. Chief Ikenna Iyiegbu (Ike-Cubana), Idemili-South House of Assembly Representative Hon. Barr. Ebuka Igwe, billionaire industrialist High Chief Hamilton Emeka Ezeonu, to mention a few of the high profile personalities on the occasion while gift presentations to Okenwa Idemili from friends and well-wishers formed climax of the glamorous new yam festival.
