Mayor of Idemili-South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Dr. Mrs. Amaka Obi, has officially commissioned Okenwa Crescent at Umuagu-Umuike-echem Ndam Ngo in Nnobi community for public use.
The one kilometer road which was constructed by High Chief Ikechukwu Azugo (Okenwa Idemili); attracted by the Chairman Ngo Development Union (NDU) and the incoming Mayor of Idemili-South Local Government Area, Hon. Oluchukwu Ilogbenu (Olutek), has addressed years of hardships and painful experiences suffered by villagers while trying to navigate bush paths to access their homes due to absence of accessible roads.
Commissioning the road, Obi stated that the works department of Idemili-South Local Government Area constantly supervised the road project to ensure that it was done in accordance with specifications and government standards on road construction.
She explained that the local government authority ensured that the drainages on both sides of the road were properly done and in accordance with government standards, adding that the road would stand the test of time while commending High Chief Ikechukwu Azugo for his magnanimity to humanity.
Ikechukwu Azugo, who constructed the road, said there was no access road in Ndam quarter but construction of Okenwa Crescent road would henceforth alleviate their sufferings as well as ease both human and vehicular movements in the area. He therefore added that he was happy and grateful to God that he was able to construct a road for his people in his lifetime, adding he intends to do more for his people.
The traditional ruler of Nnobi kingdom His Royal Highness Igwe Engr. Nick Obi, in his remarks, emphasized the think-home philosophy and the dire need for people to bring development home as exemplified in the road constructed by High Chief Ikechukwu Azugo.
Igwe Obi recalled with hindsight that Ndam quarter had no roads before the intervention by Okenwa Idemili but expressed profound joy that the road was constructed and would be useful to the community and Ndi-Anambra at large.
Another philanthropist in Nnobi community, High Chief Hamilton Ezeonu (Ikemba Idemili)who attended the commissioning ceremony of Okenwa Crescent, recalled that since Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo came to commission his own road project in the community, everyone is now constructing roads in all the nooks and crannies of Nnobi community.
Ezeonu who noted that Okenwa Crescent was about the sixth road constructed in Nnobi community by private individuals, maintained that it gives him great joy that road construction is now a trend in Nnobi community. He said it is no longer about driving big cars and living in big houses but about what you have done for your community.
Meanwhile the incoming Mayor of Idemili-South Local Government Area, Hon. Oluchukwu Ilogbenu (Olutek), who is also the chairman of Ngo Development Union (NDU), stressed the need for partnership with government inorder to bring development to the grassroots. Ilogbenu also recalled that the area was not navigable before Okenwa Crescent was constructed.
He said Ndam quarter had the worst roads in Nnobi community but expressed profound gratitude to God that High Chief Ikechukwu Azugo came to the rescue with the construction of Okenwa Crescent in the area. According to him, another road has been approved for construction in Ngo quarter.
He therefore assured his people that he would consolidate on the good works in Idemili-South Local Government and also surpass achievements on ground because he is coming with a bigger development plan for the people.
President-General of Nnobi Welfare Organisation, Chief Aloysius Olubialu, in his brief remarks, took cognizance of the fact that peace has returned to Nnobi town and advised people to refrain from court litigations and deploy their financial resources to the development of Nnobi community.
