How Anambra SASA Operative Narrowly Escaped Death At Mgbakwu Drug Camp

RAYMOND OZOJI reports

Information erupted on 30th April, 2026 that operatives of the Anambra State Special Anti-tout Squad called SASA invaded a certain Amaeze village in Mgbakwu community Awka-North Local Government Area of the state about 8pm and began to arrest innocent youths indiscriminately.

Reports had it that the commotion allegedly led to the killing of one Chinyeaka Ike, a 26 year old lad popularly known as Akidi in the area; said to be an only son of an aged mother, whose wife is also due to put to bed.

Reports claimed that Chinyeaka Ike was shot by SASA while other youths fled for safety but there was no details of why SASA and the Udogachi security team stormed Mgbakwu community on that fateful day.

Although Mgbakwu people had protested the alleged killing of their brother and the Anambra State Government has assured the community of an amicable resolution of the matter; further investigations revealed that the late Akidi didn't die by a gunshot from SASA.

Further findings revealed that a SASA officer who was on an undercover operation at Mgbakwu following an intelligence report that there exist a notorious drug camp in the community where all manner of illicit drugs like Canadian loud, Canadian weed, Ghanian loud, Ice (Mkpulumiri), Nigerian weed, Nigerian loud, Ghana Kolos, Nigerian Kolos, Scottish, Charley, Scale, Cellophane and Rizzlers were sold, stormed the drug camp pretending to buy a particular drug.

On request he was told that the drug he asked for wasn't available at the moment but if he would exercise some patience, the consignment will arrive and he would get what he requested for. Before long, his order arrived and the suspicion was confirmed that hard drugs were traded on in the area.

The SASA undercover operative then moved a few steps away to make a phone call to alert his backup team. Then Akidi caught him alerting his team and began to chase him with the knife with which they used to cut their drugs into sizes.

Investigations had it that Akidi swooped on the SASA operative stabbing him with the knife menacingly but the latter got hold of the weapon and stabbed Akidi in self-defense.

Meanwhile a team of security personnel comprising SASA and Udogachi had arrived the scene and in the midst of the frenzied atmosphere, the security personnel retreated with the SASA undercover operative who was already in his own pool of blood as a result of the severe cuts inflicted on him by his assailant, Akidi while other criminal elements at the drug camp fled.

Reports say Akidi died after awhile because he couldn't hold on even though he was the first to unleash terror and mayhem on the SASA undercover operative. Further investigations revealed that there was no gun wound whatsoever on Akidi and that Anti-tout officers do not operate with knives and cutlasses.

Reports say that exhibits recovered from the drug camp where the late Akidi ran his merchandise included the aforementioned contraband drugs, destroying young people like wild fire in the harmattan.

A closer observation on the operations of the Anambra State Special Anti-tout Squad (SASA) revealed that the agency operates within the laws establishing it and doesn't get involved in extrajudicial killings.

The Anambra State Government on its part doesn't tolerate extrajudicial killings and equally doesn't tolerate abuse of security officers but believes in an  egalitarian society where every citizen irrespective of social status is equal before the laws of the land.
