Chief Press Secretary to the governor of Anambra State, Mr. Osagie Christian Aburime has stated that Governor Soludo encouraged freedom of the press in his first term.
Aburime said that Soludo created an atmosphere of peace and cordiality for every media house to report freely as well as criticised his government without fear or favour because the governor, according to him, didn't operate in isolation.
He said Soludo's first term enjoyed cordial relations with journalists in Anambra State and that the same friendship would continue in his second term as the governor plans to create even a more democratic atmosphere for the Press to function without incursions.
Aburime who was reappointed by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo to serve as his Chief Press Secretary again, told newsmen after taking his oath of office and allegiance, that the relationship between the Press and government was very cordial in Soludo's first term even as he pointed out that there may have been some areas where government should have done better but in all, he believed very strongly that the relationship between government and the Media was very cordial and there was mutual respect for the Press.
He said, " The press. had freedom to write without anybody holding them. Freedom of the press was fully expressed by the media in Anambra State and there has never been a situation whereby the governor or the State descended on any media house or any reporter.
There was more like absolute freedom in terms of reportage by media houses. We feel we will continue with that because Governor Soludo is not a man who will hinder the press from what they are supposed to do. He is very open. His government is open.
Journalists are free to scrutinise whatever they want to scrutinise but my advise always to journalists is to be careful of what they report. They should always ensure that they do balanced reports and not subjective reports. "
Aburime therefore expressed profound gratitude and appreciation to Governor Soludo for finding him worthy to serve as his Chief Press Secretary again, stressing that the affinity between government and journalists would be strengthened.
