Gov. Hope Uzodimma of Imo has reiterated his commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force in a bid to rid the state of crimes and criminality.
Uzodimma made the pledge at the Passing Out Parade of the 264 Constables drawn from Abia and Imo at the Police Training School, Nekede, near Owerri, the Imo capital.
Represented by CSP Adamu Shaba, the governor commended the efforts of the police in maintaining peace and security in the state.
He noted that that their dedication and hard work had contributed significantly to the state's stability and prosperity.
Uzodimma praised the I-G for his visionary leadership and reforms which he noted had enhanced the image of the Nigeria Police Force.
He charged the new recruits to see policing "not just as a privilege, but as a sacred duty to protect lives, uphold justice, and defend the rule of law."
In his remark, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olukayode Egbetokun charged the 264 newly recruited police constables to uphold the values of integrity, discipline, courage and professionalism.
Egbetokun, who was represented by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Aboki Danjuma, further urged them to discharge their duties with respect for the rule of law and human rights.
Egbetokun congratulated the Constables, who were engaged under the 2022/2023 Batch B for their "endurance, discipline, and commitment throughout the training period."
He reaffirmed the commitment of the police authorities to protecting lives and property and enforcing law without fear or favour.
Earlier, the Commandant of the Police Training School, Nekede, ACP Rilwanu Shuaibu, expressed gratitude to the I-G for his support and leadership.
Shuaibu also thanked Danjuma for his guidance, while further appreciating the officers and instructors "who played pivotal roles in ensuring the success of the training programme."
The event marked the completion of rigorous training for the 264 recruits consisting of 159 from Imo and 105 from Abia.
Highlights of the ceremony included the march past, as well as presentation of awards to deserving recruits who excelled during the course of training.
