RAYMOND OZOJI reports
The Mayor of Idemili-South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Dr. Mrs. Amaka Obi (Iyom Ifeabata) has flagged off construction of Okenwa Crescent road at Umuike-echem village Ngo-Nnobi.
The road being constructed by High Chief Amb. Dr. Ikechukwu Edwin Azugo ( Okenwa Nnobi) in line with Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo's Public Private Community Partnership model (PPCP), is of strategic importance as it would serve as a major alternative entrance into Umuike-echem and Umuagu community Ngo-Nnobi.
Azugo said that the construction of Okenwa Crescent road was conceived so as to lessen the burden on Ajaokwu road which he said has been the only road in the community since inception.
He noted that the Okenwa Crescent road currently under construction would be a second alternative road in the area because they are many and using only Ajaokwu road wouldn't be very convenient for them, emphasizing that the aim was to have a complimentary road for easy access into the community.
Okenwa Nnobi, a special title holder of Nnobi community also disclosed that he has been involved in philanthropic services in the last twelve years awarding scholarships, doling out empowerment schemes and building houses for less-privileged families in Nnobi community, adding that one of the houses built for the downtrodden would be commissioned December this year.
Another special title holder of Nnobi community High Chief Hamilton Ezeonu (Ikemba Nnobi) said self-help scheme is becoming the new trend in Nnobi community. That Nnobi is supporting the government in power to see how the state can be developed to make it liveable and prosperous for and sundry.
Ezeonu said Okenwa Nnobi has done the right thing and that the construction of Okenwa Crescent road marked the beginning of many more roads he would construct in Nnobi community. He said he was happy for his fellow special title holder and also prayed that God would replenish his pockets bountifully.
Ilogbenu Oluchukwu, the chairman of Ngo-Nnobi quarters and the councilor representing Nnobi ward 2 at the Idemili-South Legislative Council underscored the importance of the Okenwa Crescent road, saying that the road will herald more developmental projects and progress in Ngo-Nnobi as he believes that road infrastructure is one of the foundations of sustainable development.
Meanwhile Idemili-South Local Government Chairman Hon. Dr. Mrs. Amaka Obi, who performed the ceremonial flag-off, said High Chief Amb Dr. Ikechukwu Edwin Azugo's decision to construct the road is in tandem with what Governor Soludo has been preaching that Anambra people abroad should remember home through the Aku Lu Uno development mantra of his administration.
Obi said that government can not do it alone which is why the Public Private Community Partnership Model was set-up so that well-to-do individuals like Okenwa Nnobi could assist government in grassroots development through rural road constructions and other developmental efforts.
She therefore commended the tenacity of the Ngo-Nnobi village chairman Hon. Ilogbenu Oluchukwu for attracting developmental projects to the community, stressing that the likes of Ikemba Nnobi and some others have undertaken road projects in Nnobi community.
