RAYMOND OZOJI reports
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Chief Barr. Sylvester Ezeokenwa has advised the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the November 8th governorship election in Anambra State, Evangelist Nicholas Ukachukwu to accept defeat and congratulate winner of the August 16th Anambra-South bye-election, Chief Emmanuel Chibuzor Nwachukwu.
The APGA national chairman who spoke to this journalist in his office at the APGA regional headquarters Agu-Awka, said it would amount to an effort in futility should Ukachukwu embark on any form of litigation concerning the conduct of the just concluded Anambra-South senatorial bye-election.
He said it is completely inconsequential for anyone to resort to court actions to contest what has been generally adjudged as flawlessly transparent, fair and credible even as he acknowledged the right of any aggrieved political party or candidate to seek redress in court on the conduct of the election, if they so deem fit.
Ezeokenwa noted that the unquestionable outcome of every election is that there must be a winner and a loser and that court litigations can only arise when there are issues with the electoral process. He therefore called on the APC to jettison the idea of going to court because they have no case at all.
Ezeokenwa pointed out that there are video evidences where the APC gubernatorial candidate allegedly hijacked electoral materials and INEC adhoc officials and diverted them to his house because he was losing in the two polling units in his ward.
The APGA national chairman who stated that it was quite disgraceful for someone who had engaged in what he described as a reprehensible act to question the conduct of an election adjudged to be near 98% transparent is quite appalling.
He said he doesn't think that the APC gubernatorial candidate is an honourable man for him to have descended to that level of rascality and mayhem, stressing that he expected more from an elder like him and not the contrary.
He was however of the opinion that if the APC gubernatorial candidate considers Anambra as one people with one agenda, then he should concede defeat and come out to congratulate winner of the Anambra-South senatorial bye-election and also deploy his wealth of experience to support Chief Emmanuel Nwachukwu to ensure that he attracts the dividends of democracy to the people of Anambra-South senatorial district.
The APGA helmsman who is also a constitutional lawyer stated that observers who monitored the election in Anambra-South have come out to attest that if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues in the manner in which it conducted the bye-election, then the nation would have gotten the electoral system and the electoral process right.
Ezeokenwa therefore insisted that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) doesn't have problems with Ukachukwu and the APC going to court because they will all meet in court.
