Politicians Blackmailing Agunechemba For Selfish Reasons --- Emeakayi

RAYMOND OZOJI reports

The Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra State on Homeland Security Hon. Prince Kenneth Emeakayi has stated that politicians are deliberately and intentionally blackmailing the state local security formation called Agunechemba.

Emeakayi observed that since the conduct of the August 16th Anambra-South senatorial district by-election, politicians embarked on all manner of propaganda to discredit the organization as well as portray it in bad light even though Agunechemba joined forces with other security agencies to ensure a tranquil atmosphere for the conduct of the by-election.

Emeakayi who spoke to this journalist exclusively noted that the advent of Agunechemba and Operation Udo Ga Chi Security Service have drastically reduced insecurity in Anambra State especially in troubled zones like Anambra-South that was hitherto under the captivity of non-state actors.

He said because it is an election year, politicians and their cronies are digging up old videos and brandishing them in the social media just to malign the security outfit and give it a bad name.

He said that the issue of the female NYSC member who was badly treated by Agunechemba operatives in Idemili-South Local Government Area of the state occurred on 23rd July this year and had long been amicably resolved while the operatives involved faced severe disciplinary actions for their unethical conducts.

The governor's aide noted that the female corps member and her father who were in his office on 24th July pleaded that the matter shouldn't be taken to court reason being that should the matter go to court, the video of her public assault would be presented as evidence in court and they wouldn't want the lady to face such.

He said they pleaded with anyone in possession of the video to delete it because it is not good for the lady, adding that all the demands made by the lady were met and damages were equally paid for heavily. That the matter was resolved peacefully in his office on 24th July this year.

Emeakayi who said that the suspects were later handed over to the police for further actions, stated that he was surprised to see the video of the assault on the female corps member resurface on the social media immediately after the August 16th by-election in the state.

He said even the NYSC authorities in the state called him expressing  surprise at the development because the matter, according to him, has been settled long time ago but politicians resurrected it to feather their own nest because it is an election year in the state.

He was however of the opinion that rather than resort to protests and other forms of negative propaganda so as to disband or proscribe Agunechemba security outfit, he said those who dismantled state security in the past and unleashed terror and mayhem on government infrastructures in the state were at it again because they want to take power by all means.

The governor's aide therefore stated in very strong terms that Agunechemba will continue to ensure the safety and security of lives and property of the citizens especially in the hinterlands, stressing that the contributions of Agunechemba state security outfit in the protection of lives and property across ƀnambra State cannot be overemphasized.
