RAYMOND OZOJI reports
Prince Kenneth Emeakayi, Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo's special adviser on Homeland Security, who is also in charge of the state local security outfit known as Agunechemba has described as arrant falsehoods allegations of Agunechemba security operatives holding one Mr. Azuka Okwuosa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate in the August 16th Anambra-South by-election hostage.
It would be recalled that the APC gubernatorial candidate in the forthcoming November 8th governorship election in Anambra, Evangelist Nicholas Ukachukwu held a press conference in Awka shortly after the by-election alleging that Agunechemba security operatives scared voters away and placed the candidate of APC on house arrest till the election was over, as reported in the news media.
But Emeakayi while speaking exclusively to this journalist in his office in Awka, said those were baseless claims because nothing of such happened rather it was the APC senatorial candidate who snatched election materials into his house in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state as captured in a viral online video.
Emeakayi said he was shocked that the APC could make such claims whereas he has seen an online video where the President-General of Oraifite community stood in front of Okwuosa's house telling people that Azuka Okwuosa went to a polling unit and took away voting materials and election materials to his house.
He said that in the same viral video, the PG of Oraifite town was with the Mayor of the local government Hon. Chimezie Obi and the Majority Leader of the Anambra State House of Assembly and member representing Ekwusigo state constituency Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme.
He said in today's world there was no way Agunechemba would hold a senatorial candidate in an election hostage without anyone capturing it on camera; that he challenged APC to produce one video or photo of such incident.
Emeakayi therefore emphasized that Agunechemba has absolutely no business with election duties now and in future because it is not part of their mandate. According to him, Agunechemba was not involved in election duties on 16th August this year and that any other allegation is spurious and unfounded.
On the issue of Agunechemba scaring voters away during the August 16th Anambra-South by-election; Emeakayi wondered whether the local security outfit also scared party agents in the 118 wards and 70 communities of Anambra-South during the election, describing it as very ridiculous allegations.
The Homeland Security adviser to the governor who stressed that Agunechemba wouldn't want to engage in politics with anybody, maintained that some people want to destabilize Agunechemba for reasons best known to them.
He therefore advised politicians to go and sell their products to the people and leave propaganda because elections are won and lost at the polling units not on social media, pages of newspapers or screens of televisions.
He was equally of the opinion that everything must not be seen from the mirror of politics as he observed that insecurity escalated every election year in Anambra State because politicians make it a do or die affair.
Emeakayi recalled how a particular set of people did everything humanly possible to dismantle the state security outfit to enable them use it against the then governor, which he said they succeeded.
That the same group who instigated insecurity in Anambra State, installed another governor who refused to do their bidding but the bidding of Ndi-Anambra and hell was let loose and there was pandemonium in the state.
The security expert revealed that the cabal came after the governor they dismantled security to install and Anambra State was burnt beyond recognition. He recalled that the Government House was burnt; the Anambra Broadcasting Service Complex was burnt; Ikenga hotel and other government and private properties were razed down completely in the state.
According to him, some of the properties destroyed in Anambra State then have not been replaced till today and that the ones rebuilt were done with taxpayers' money that could have been deployed elsewhere but were used to replace what some people deliberately and intentionally destroyed just to get at a governor.
He was worried that the characters involved in the arson and heinous crimes against Ndi-Anambra were still involved in the 2025 election season seeking power at all cost which is why they are going against the state security outfit Agunechemba to dismantle it just to install a crony as governor.
The Agunechemba boss however prayed that Ndi-Anambra do not fall into that trap this time around to avoid a repeat of the ugly episodes of yesteryears. He said politicians were now digging up old videos and even going as far as getting videos of things that happened in other places and rebrand them as things that happened in Anambra State all in an attempt to get at the state security architecture.
Emeakayi recalled that in 2021 virtually all the local governments in Anambra-South could not vote and that Governor Soludo was attacked in his hometown Isuofia and his security details were killed. That no gubernatorial candidate could campaign in Ihiala Local Government in 2021.
That the candidate of the Labour Party in 2021 was on his way out of Nnewi-South and till today nobody knows his whereabouts. He said that the LP gubernatorial candidate has been missing since 2021.
The security adviser to the governor pointed out that the same state election could not hold in 8 local government areas in 2021, witnessed massive voting in the August 16th Anambra-South senatorial by-election as all the 70 communities participated in the voting exercise with no exceptions because Agunechemba in less than one year of its establishment has proven that it can secure the lives and property of Anambra citizens.
He said politicians are going around campaigning now because there is security in the state unlike in 2021 when no one dared to campaign due to escalated insecurity especially in the Anambra-South senatorial district, stressing that rather than vilifying Agunechemba, the organization should be praised for ensuring homeland security.
