Residents of Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State have attested to the prevailing security and safety in the council area.
Some residents and business owners who spoke to this journalist during an independent investigation tour of the security situation in the area, posited that there is currently a prevailing tranquil atmosphere and that commercial activities are now booming as they conducted their businesses with ease devoid of threats of insecurity from men of the underworlds.
This journalist who toured communities in Ihiala Local Government found out from the grassroots dwellers that the government of Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo and that of Hon. Engr. Anayochukwu Charles Ojiako have rescued the council area from the hostage and tutelage of criminal elements hitherto threatening peace of the local government.
They maintained that the presence of security operatives in the area especially the military and the state Agunechemba squad have helped in no small measures in the war against kidnappers and other outlaws in the area.
They were of the opinion that the days of Holocaust were over and that the Egyptians who used to terrorize them from the bushes and forests would terrorize them no more because government has declared unending war against them and there is no more hiding place for them in Ihiala Local Government Area.
Mr. Jude Obodoako who runs a cyber cafe opposite Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Uli campus, told this journalist that he is conducting his business peacefully. He said people no longer run for their lives or scampered for safety due to activities of criminal insurgents. He was however grateful to both the state and local government for their renewed war against criminals.
A commercial cyclist who gave his name as Okoye Ogbonna and operates within Uli community, testified that the area is peaceful now and his Okada business is booming as he traversed village pathways without frictions from criminal elements.
Another Okada rider who identified himself as Unorji Uchenna confirmed that Ihiala is safe now unlike before when it was crisis-ridden due to the unwholesome and obnoxious activities of men of the underworlds. He said businesses are moving and there is nothing like crisis anymore.
The Okada rider disclosed that in the last six months there has been no crisis of any kind in the area and everywhere is calm and peaceful now even as he expressed profound gratitude and appreciation to the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Engr. Anayochukwu Charles Ojiako and the state government for their efforts in combating insecurity in Ihiala Local Government.
Chief Emmanuel Oguechuo, a paramount stakeholder in Uli community, who thanked Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo for his numerous interventions at the Uli campus of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, also commended the Mayor for his transformative leadership and developmental efforts in Ihiala Local Government Area.
Chief Oguechuo told this journalist that the local government Mayor has done repairs of electric transformers and installed new ones too to provide regular electricity supply for the people as well as provided solar-powered borehole water facilities in markets.
He said Uli campus of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University used to be flooded whenever it rained due to bad internal roads in the university but the Chairman, according to him, has responded with the construction of internal roads in the university with drainage systems to forestall flooding and to guarantee longevity of the roads coupled with erection of a befitting entrance into the university.
According to him, security interventions in Ihiala Local Government Area are paying off because the entire council area is peaceful now and the people are reaping the dividends of the interventions.
