The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association Ihiala zone of Anambra state, Dr. Johnmary Akachukwu Maduakonam, says Ihiala Local Government Area is largely underdeveloped due to poor representations.
Maduakonam, a native of Azia community in Ihiala Local Government Area and Head, Department of Law at Shanahan University Onitsha, observed that the welfare and well-being of Ihiala people have worsened in the last five years due to insecurity.
The legal luminary and university don who spoke to this journalist exclusively concerning his workplan as the newly elected Chairman of Ihiala branch of the NBA, maintained that it was time Ihiala people began to hold their leaders and representatives accountable especially as insecurity is abating in the area to ensure that they deliver on their mandates.
He explained that the NBA is not partisan but their duties in elections is to ensure that the electoral process is free and fair and also to report infractions where necessary, adding that it is entirely up to the people to elect whoever they deem fit to represent them at different levels of government.
The new Ihiala branch NBA helmsman stressed that his tenure would ensure the rule of law, promotion of welfare of members as well as promotion of welfare of citizens of Ihiala Local Government Area through being the voice of the voiceless.
According to him, Ihiala Local Government is recovering from a very catastrophic breakdown of law and order and as part of the recovery mission, there is a dire need to point in the necessary directions for the welfare of the people.
He equally explained that Ihiala branch of the NBA specifically has a duty to ensure that the human rights enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as well as all other laws enabling it in that behalf are obeyed.
Maduakonam noted that the NBA has a responsibility of engaging government and all institutions of government to ensure that the rights of the citizens are not violated and that the people are not neglected.
