Former Anambra lawmaker who represented Aguata 1 state constituency in the 7th legislature of Anambra State, Hon. Cater Dike Umeoduagu, has been appointed the acting vice chancellor of Tansian University in the state. 


Umeoduagu who was the House of Assembly Committee Chairman on Health at the time, until his recent appointment was the Deputy Chancellor Academics And University Advancement  of Tansian University. 


A statement from Tansian University Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Fidelis Nwakwesili revealed that Hon. Professor Cater Dike Umeoduagu has addressed Professors. Deans and Heads of various faculties and Departments of the University at the Senate Chamber.


The statement has it that the Acting Vice Chancellor stressed the need for those of them facing accreditation in their various departments, to brace up to the challenges of meeting up with the standard required for NUC accreditation.


He was equally of the view that Professors as the pivot on which the University rotates, must steer the citadel of learning towards the founding ideals of academic and spiritual excellence. 


He observed that every academic staff must exhibit a high sense of responsibility and decorum visa vis maintaining high examination standards, as mechanism has been put in place to evaluate the performance of lecturers by the students. 


The erudite scholar who advocated for a new Tansian University,  announced that henceforth, the retirement age for academic staff in the University is pegged at 75, while those on contract should renew their contract annually  or deemed to have voluntarily given up their appointments in violation.
