Federal Cooperative College Oji River Holds Golden Jubilee Matriculation Ceremony

The Federal Cooperative College Oji River Enugu state has conducted her 28th matriculation cum induction ceremony for her new students. 


The occasion which was christened Golden Jubilee Matriculation Ceremony as the institution attained 50 years of her establishment this year, afforded Provost of the college Dr. Jude Ejikeme Obidiegwu, Executive Chairman of Oji River Local Government Area Hon. Greg Anyaegbudike, Guest Lecturer of the ceremony Professor Justina Uzoma Mgbada and a host of other dignitaries  ample time to admonish the new students on the need to take their studies seriously and refrain from acts capable of putting their academic pursuits in jeopardy. 


Addressing the matriculating students, Provost of the Federal Cooperative College Oji River Dr. Jude Ejikeme Obidiegwu, said he considered the students lucky amongst all the students that have matriculated in the school because they were being inducted as students of the Federal Cooperative College Oji River in a golden year. 


Obidiegwu who encouraged the new intakes to always behave like golden students, explained that they should strive to take their matriculation up to the point of convocation because he believes that with dedication, hardwork as well as the grace of God, they will achieve their purpose of gaining admission into the college. 


He therefore emphasized that their matriculation was an opportunity for them to explore, endure as well as navigate through the rigors of academic pursuits as he believes that the students are privileged because they have parents and guardians training them. 



He however assured the matriculating students that they were in safe hands and under his leadership, their rights and privileges as Nigerian students would be protected, adding that as a responsible legal entity, the Federal Cooperative College Oji River has a lot of respect for the students they are training coupled with ambient campus environment. 


Although the Provost was cognisant of the fact that there maybe challenges in the course of their studies, he advised them to always speak out in difficult situations because the management, according to him, will always be available to lend listening ears. 


Meanwhile chairman of the Golden Jubilee Matriculation Ceremony, who is also the Executive Chairman of Oji River Local Government Area, Hon. Greg Anyaegbudike, in his remarks, congratulated Federal Cooperative College Oji River on her 50th anniversary.


Anyaegbudike stated that the matriculation ceremony was not just to celebrate the new students but to also celebrate 50 years of excellence, growth as well as impact of the college on Oji River Local Government Area. 


He said it has been 50 years of shaping leaders, nurturing great minds, fostering unity and 50 years of driving community progress. He added that from 1976 till date, there has been tremendous growth in the college in terms of functionality, infrastructure and other developmental strides. 


The Oji River Local Government Chairman therefore thanked the matriculating students for joining the legacy at Federal Cooperative College Oji River, stressing that the students were now part of a tradition of excellence, innovation and cooperative spirit. 


The chairman however called on all Oji River indigenes home and abroad to come and tap into Federal Cooperative College Oji River, assuring that with the cooperation of his people, Oji River Local Government Area will henceforth bring the highest number of students in the college. 


Guest lecturer on the occasion, Prof. Justina Uzoma Mgbada, who made a presentation on the topic " Human Capacity Development In Agriculture As A Sine Qua Non To Tomorrow's Leadership" emphasized the dire need for young people to be prepared for tomorrow because if they are not prepared, tomorrow will take them unawares. 


Prof. Mgbada explained that agriculture is very important and covers all human activities in producing new food and fibre commodities. She said there is a lot of potentials in Agriculture young people could leverage on to become job and wealth creators. 


The Federal Cooperative College Oji River Golden Jubilee Matriculation Ceremony featured acrobatic cultural dance displays, cutting of matriculation cake for students under the scholarship scheme of Oji River Local Government Area, goodwill messages by past provosts of the college as well as vote of thanks delivered by the college admissions officer, Hon. Obinna Ezeano.
