Hoodlums Kill OCHA-Brigade Staff As MD Warns Nobody Should Fight Personnel On Official Duties

RAYMOND OZOJI reports

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA-Brigade) Chief Celestine Anere has warned that nobody should attack OCHA-Brigade personnel on official assignments henceforth because the organization will no longer tolerate such gruesome attacks on its operatives anymore.

Recounting an ugly experience of how hoodlums brutally murdered a staff of the agency in December last year, Anere told this journalist that OCHA-Brigade personnel on official duties suffer all manner of mob actions from members of the public while trying to enforce environmental laws of the state.

He said henceforth the organization will deal decisively with whoever attacked any staff of OCHA-Brigade on official duties, stressing that the death of its member in December last year was indeed painful.

He reiterated that nobody should fight OCHA-Brigade personnel while they are doing their jobs. According to him, apart from the staff who was killed in December last year, Anere recalled that OCHA-Brigade has lost many of its members to similar occurrences but over the years, he said they have been able to stop the ugly trend except for some few occasions.

Anere said, " We are also telling Ndi-Anambra not to attack OCHA-Brigade personnel on official duties because there will be grave consequences for it. ".

The OCHA-Brigade boss who disclosed that the agency will begin enforcement to totally eliminate street trading at Upper Iweka Onitsha, Onitsha-Owerri road and some other places in the commercial city while ensuring that all the drainages will be desilted, maintained that staff members of the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA-Brigade) have been warned not to collect money from market women and any staff found wanting would be treated as an Agbero.

He said Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo approved recruitment of more personnel for the agency and that currently they have more human resources to do their jobs more effectively and efficiently, adding that a new OCHA-Brigade will emerge henceforth.

He therefore emphasized that the agency now has zero tolerance to improper conduct of personnel in the line of duty and zero tolerance too on members of the public attacking OCHA-Brigade officer while carrying out their lawful duties.

Anere appealed that anyone who has complaints against OCHA-Brigade officers shouldn't take laws into their hands instead they should report to the office and where there are established cases of improper conducts adequate disciplinary actions would be meted out on erring officers.

Anere maintained that OCHA-Brigade wants a good relationship with members of the public and equally have them understand that OCHA-Brigade alone can not make Anambra State clean and healthy; that it is the combination of Ndi-Anambra and OCHA-Brigade that will make Anambra clean and healthy.

He reemphasized that any further attacks on OCHA-Brigade personnel, the culprits would be arrested and charged to court.
