RAYMOND OZOJI reports
As the 2026 Anambra State Local Government Election approaches with intense alacrity, Presidents-General of communities in Idemili-South council area of the state have unanimously and without dissenting voices passed a vote of confidence on the incumbent Mayor Rt. Hon. Dr. Mrs. Amaka Obi, declaring her best candidate for the chairmanship position.
The community leaders who spoke to newsmen at the council headquarters Ojoto, maintained that there is no vacancy for now because the incumbent Mayor is performing and that changing her would be detrimental and counterproductive.
In their separate speeches, they all rejected other candidates and concurred that Amaka Obi is a beacon of light; that her second term aspiration is incontestable irrespective of the machinations of opposition elements.
The President-General of Nnobi community Chief Sir Alloy Olubialu, said Amaka Obi deserved more than a second term in office because she has performed exceedingly well considering her efforts in security, empowerment programmes as well as holistic infrastructural development across Idemili-South council area.
Nnobi PG held that Amaka Obi remembered a forgotten primary school in his community and rescued the pupils from learning in dilapidated classrooms. He therefore emphasized that she deserved a return and they are supporting her to ensure that she returns elected, adding that oppositions won't stop her reelection.
The President-General Awka-Etiti Development Union Chief Emeka Ezeoke, said Amaka Obi has taken rural development to all the nooks and crannies of Idemili-South Local Government and it is the first time such people-oriented governance is happening in the council area.
Ezeoke observed that in just one year and few months, Amaka Obi has replicated Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo's kind of governance in Idemili-South, noting that she has indeed surpassed performances of her predecessors and also met expectations of the people. He added that considering what she has done, she deserves a second term in office.
In his remarks, Nze Udeagwa Martin Chukwulobe, the Publicity Secretary of Alor community who represented the President-General in the meeting PGs had with the Mayor in her office, maintained that it can not be overemphasized that Amaka Obi deserves a second term in office.
Udeagwa stated that Nkwo-Alor market now has a modern abattoir because of the interventions of the Mayor. He explained that Amaka Obi has done a lot but the people are requesting that she is reelected so she can do more for the communities in Idemili-South Local Government Area.
Meanwhile President-General of Oba community Engr. Anthony Uzor Ejiofor was not left out in the endorsement speeches made by his colleagues. Ejiofor said that Amaka Obi has ensured that Oba is a peaceful community and no longer on the Internet for the wrong reasons.
He also stated that she always invited all the Presidents-General in Idemili-South to her empowerment programmes where they have severally seen her giving out sewing machines, hair-dressing equipment, financial supports to petty traders, baking machines and a host of others just to lift families from poverty and privation.
The PG was equally cognisant that Amaka Obi provided a functional solar-powered borehole water facility at Oba Civic Centre; intervened on the very deplorable Oba old road leading to Nnewi, which he said used to be a death trap because many vehicles have fallen on the road.
The PG also mentioned Oba Estate where he said that the people complained of being neglected because there was no access road into the estate. He said Amaka Obi intervened with the construction of a 700 meters access road in the estate which helped to address a perennial problem in the area.
Ejiofor who appealed for support for Amaka Obi, described her as a change agent who deserves reelection to sustain the tempo of development in Idemili-South Local Government Area.
