Anambra Health Professionals Accuse Government Officials Of Selective Implementation After Soludo's Approval Of 100% CONHESS

RAYMOND OZOJI reports

Anambra health professionals have accused government officials of selectively implementing the 100% Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) recently approved by Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo.

The health professionals who threatened to resume their suspended strike, revealed that the circular which emanated from the office of the Head of Service showed that some health professionals were sidelined and segregated in the course of implementation.

Speaking exclusively with this journalist on the said development, the leader of the Organized Health Sector and Chairman Anambra State Council of Nigeria Union of Allied Health Professionals, Comrade Charles Nwoye, said that strategic health professionals such as health information managers,  dieticians, pharmacists and some others were excluded from the scheme and they can not fathom the criteria for the selective implementation.

He said that they don't know the interest of the government officials who chose to include some professionals and discriminate against some others despite the governor's holistic approval which he said captured all segments of the health practitioners in Anambra state.

According to him, the health workers are not happy with the development even as they pointed accusing fingers at the  Health Commissioner and the Head of Service; asking them to do the needful as far as the governor's approval is concerned.

Nwoye maintained that they will not accept it and they are giving them the next few days to effect necessary corrections on the implementation, else they would resume their suspended strike actions.

The health professionals however thanked Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo for responding to their request for better placements as well as payment of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS).

Nwoye noted that they have engaged government at several fora, issued several ultimatums and government officials calling them for negotiations.

He said they have equally accused government officials of not taking their demands to the governor because they believe that the governor is interested in making sure that the health workforce is well treated inorder to upgrade and upscale the state healthcare services.

Comrade Nwoye also noted that their members have been working assiduously to make sure that Anambra state health system moved to the next level which he said has culminated into the several awards and laurels won by the governor in the area of quality healthcare delivery.
