RAYMOND OZOJI reports
Over 50, 000 tipper drivers with voters' cards under the auspices of Solution Tipper Drivers Association of Anambra state have pledged their total submissions and unwavering support to Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo as the state prepares for the November 8th governorship election.
The tipper drivers who disclosed that other governorship candidates have been fighting tooth and nail to woo them over, told this journalist exclusively that it is Governor Soludo that they would cast their votes for because he has saved them from potholes and Incessant visits to mechanic workshops with good road network across the state.
The tipper drivers who made their positions known through the President of Solution Tipper Drivers Association of Anambra State, Comrade Chukwuebuka Unekwe, said tipper drivers have resolved that Soludo will return for a second term in office because even the blind, deaf and dumb and everyone could see that Olu-Atuegwu has done marvelously well in his first term and as such deserves another chance for continuity and consolidations.
Unekwe recalled that when the roads were bad, they spent virtually all their earnings at the mechanic workshops fixing their tippers because the roads damaged their trucks but according to him, Soludo's road interventions have ameliorated the situation because the frequent visits to mechanic workshops have drastically reduced and they are really happy about it.
Unekwe said that tipper drivers in the state are really happy because any profits they realised went straight into their pockets and no longer at the mechanic workshops due to bad roads.
Although Unekwe mentioned multiple obnoxious taxations as the worst nightmares of tipper drivers unleashed on them by countless government tax agents as evident in the N3000 cash levy they are compelled to pay upon entry from Asaba into Anambra state at Head Bridge Onitsha; saying that he is not sure if the governor is aware of such transactions and that other states don't collect such money from them.
He said Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo is the first governor in Anambra state to construct a road in his community Umuomaku in Orumba-South Local Government Area of the state since 1824, stressing that tipper drivers have promised him second term and they are not going back on that promise.
According to him, tipper drivers do not know about other candidates or what they will do differently if elected, but they have tested Governor Soludo and concluded that he is doing well and deserves continuity in office.
He also disclosed that they made it compulsory that every tipper driver must obtain his voters' card which according to him was the remote reason they all participated massively in the last Continuous Voter Registration exercise; that before long, they will convene a meeting tagged " Operation Show Your Voter's Card' to ensure that they are in good stead to return Governor Soludo on November 8th this year.
