RAYMOND OZOJI reports
Barr. Kingsley Ezekwelu, Chief of Staff to the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming November 8th governorship election Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu, has said that Ukachukwu's administration will revamp Anambra health sector, if elected.
Ezekwelu who addressed media professionals in Awka at the weekend, observed that primary healthcare facilities in the state have become monuments of deaths under the present administration as access to quality healthcare especially in the hinterlands have become a sad reality.
He said Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu's administration will provide world-class facilities in all the primary healthcare facilities in order to offer medical assistance and services that will sustain lives not the services that will destroy lives.
He also stated that Ukachukwu's administration will carry out accreditation of all qualified medical practitioners so that quacks will no longer practice in Anambra state, adding that all the health centres in the state will have befitting laboratories and pharmaceutical departments that will provide drug solutions to all patients.
According to him, no health centre in Anambra state will have less than three medical doctors and other medical practitioners so as to bring healthcare services to the grassroots levels.
Ezekwelu mentioned that in the secondary healthcare, Ukachukwu's administration will establish one general hospital in each of the twenty-one local government areas of the state and that the boards overseeing the hospitals would be managed by community and church leaders to ensure transparency, performance and credibility in the system.
He added that after building and developing the hospitals, government won't take revenues from them because the hospitals, according to him, would be built on humanitarian grounds; that government would only pathway with twenty percent while eighty percent returns to the hospitals to keep them afloat and to encourage competition amongst healthcare providers in the state.
The APC governorship candidate's Chief of Staff who stressed that without health, there is no wealth, insisted that Ukachukwu's administration will invest heavily in the health sector to revamp it, retrieve it as well as reposition it to become effective and also meet the yearnings and aspirations of Ndi-Anambra.
