RAYMOND OZOJI reports
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Chief Barr. Sylvester Ezeokenwa has declared that nobody is contesting the November 8th governorship election with Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo CFR, Olu-Atuegwu 1 of Anambra State.
Ezeokenwa who made this declarative statement while speaking exclusively to this journalist at the APGA regional headquarters Awka, made it emphatically clear that Anambra is APGA land and the people have continued to identify with APGA and that they are not willing to change anytime soon.
He explained that in various interviews and rallies he has attended, there is a consensus of opinion that there is only one candidate in the November 8th Anambra governorship election which is Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo.
He said from Anambra-North to central and to the south senatorial zone, the consensus of opinion is the same that Governor Soludo is the only candidate in the forthcoming gubernatorial election and that nobody is contesting with him or against him.
The APGA national chairman emphasized that the consensus of opinion in the entire Anambra State is that Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has performed excellentlly and exceedingly well.
He noted that where Anambra have had governors who did 800 kilometers of roads in 8 years; Soludo on the other hand, has done 800 kilometers of roads in 3 years just in the infrastructural sector.
Ezeokenwa, a constitutional lawyer explained that Governor Soludo has constructed roads where roads have not been constructed since the creation of Anambra State many decades ago; that Soludo has broken the 34 years jinx of not having a befitting government house in the state; building hospitals in communities and local government areas and providing access to quality healthcare services in the grassroots.
Ezeokenwa mentioned the enthronement of free education, free antenatal and post natal care services in the state coupled with numerous social amenities like the Solution Fun City in Awka to make life worth living in the state.
He also mentioned that Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has introduced Bursary Awards to undergraduates in higher institutions.
According to him, the question on the lips of Ndi-Anambra is, where is the governor getting all the money he spends in transforming the state because while other states of the federation have not been able to near 30% of his performance even with acute borrowing; he said Soludo has not borrowed a dime from anywhere and even opted out of the one that was negotiated for him upon inception, on the condition that the loan was not in the best interest of Ndi-Anambra.
On the issue of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate boasting that they were coming to take over the government house on November 8th this year; the APGA national chairman chuckled saying that they were used to such empty boasts.
Ezeokenwa who emphasized that the price of democracy is eternal vigilance, maintained that the APC candidate who made the empty boast is not accepted anywhere in Anambra State not even in his country home Osumenyi in Nnewi-South Local Government Area of the state.
He said he has contested in 7 elections in the state and lost all of them despite all the intimidations and violence he perpetrated in his community, noting that Saturday 16th August, 2025 was a liberation day for his community.
The APGA national chairman recalled that over the years, what the APC candidate for the November 8th governorship election does is to go about with thugs during elections beating up people who are opposing him, intimidating electoral officers or election officials, carting away or snatching ballot boxes and writing results.
The APGA national chairman however thanked the people of Osumenyi community for standing up to their feet for the first time to say no to electoral violence and that they were ready to take their destiny into their own hands and at the end of the day, the APC gubernatorial candidate lost in his polling unit, his ward, his community and his local government area Nnewi-South.
He also recalled that the APC candidate in 2017 Senator Tony Nwoye boasted that he will take power by force; that the APC candidate in 2021 election said they will take power by force and now the Osumenyi APC governorship candidate has boasted that he is coming to take power by force; we are waiting for him !
