The Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) has provided alternative travel advisory following earlier announcements that the 1st Niger Bridge will be temporarily closed from Monday 7th September this year for repair works.
The agency in a statement signed by its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Hon. Engr. Okonkwo Emeka Konti, said that the travel guide was necessary to save motorists from avoidable inconveniences and to direct them towards the 2nd Niger Bridge.
The statement reads as follows, " Following the earlier announcement, motorists are hereby reminded that the 1st Niger Bridge will be temporarily closed from Monday, 7th September 2026, for a period of two weeks to allow for necessary works.
All motorists travelling towards Asaba/Delta State are advised to use any of the following alternative routes: New Parts Flyover → Nkpor Roundabout → Obosi → 2nd Niger Bridge.
Upper Iweka Flyover → Owerri Road → Oba → 2nd Niger Bridge
Motorists already around the 1st Niger Bridge and its environs are advised to safely retrace their route back to the Upper Iweka Flyover and connect through the alternative route to the 2nd Niger Bridge.
To ensure smooth traffic flow and reduce inconvenience, ARTMA officers will be strategically positioned at major diversion points while temporary road signs will be provided to guide motorists throughout the period.
We therefore urge all road users to obey traffic signs and directions from ARTMA officers.
