RAYMOND OZOJI reports
Two-time member of the Anambra State House of Assembly and currently the new Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Edward Obiefuna Ibuzo, has said that part of his major priorities as the new transport commissioner would be to address multiple police checkpoints across the state.
Ibuzo who stated this shortly after his successful screening and scrutiny at the state assembly complex Awka yesterday, observed that there are more than fifteen police checkpoints between Onitsha and Awka, stressing that there is a dire need to make the environment friendly for motorists.
Ibuzo stated that there is a lot of work to be done especially as it concerns total overhauling of the transport sector in the state. The former Onitsha-North 2 house member, who was the House of Assembly Committee Chairman on Transport during his first term, disclosed that the screening committee went through his records in the legislature and found him worthy of his new portfolio.
He therefore assured the citizenry that the transport sector will wear a new look, pointing out that his ministry will work in synergy with the ministry of Environment and other ministries to ensure that Anambra roads are vehicle-friendly.
The former lawmaker who reinforced his position that there are over fifteen police checkpoints between Onitsha and Awka, maintained that his tenure would address such anomalies on Anambra roads.
Ibuzo who is well-traveled, emphasized that he would deploy his wealth of knowledge and experience overseas in addressing critical issues in the state transport sector especially as concerns proper management of the parks and bus terminals, stressing that under his watch as the transport commissioner, Anambra motor parks and bus terminals will not be managed by touts (Agberos).
He therefore expressed profound gratitude to Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo for the appointment, while assuring Ndi-Anambra of a new and more organized transport sector in the state.
