Amaka Obi Spreads Developmental Projects Across Idemili-South LGA

Idemili-South Local Government Chairman Dr. Mrs. Amaka Obi says she has spread and distributed developmental projects across the seven communities of the council area. 


Obi who stated this at the commissioning ceremony of Doctors and Nurses Quarters built by her administration at Umunocha Primary Healthcare Facility Awka-Etiti ward 2, said grassoots development is her administration's major concern and that projects are carried out in line with the most pressing needs of the people. 


She said Umunocha Primary Healthcare Centre is strategic because it is situated in the heart of the community so the people can have close proximity to it. 


According to her, the need to have doctors and nurses working round the clock in the facility necessitated the building of a staff quarters for the medical personnel to have accommodations in order to attend to emergency situations especially at odd times. 


Apart from the nurses and doctors staff quarters built at Umunocha Primary Healthcare Centre Awka-Etiti, Obi informed that her administration has also built and.  commissioned a 4-classroom block at Community Primary School Nnokwa in Nnokwa community. 


She said her administration has installed solar-powered borehole water facilities at Oba and Awka-Etiti communities respectively while solar electrification has crisscrossed the seven communities in Idemili-South council area. 


The perimeter fencing of Central School Nnokwa, according to her, is another remarkable project of her government. She also mentioned the 700 metres ongoing road construction at Oba coupled with projects spread across the council area, adding that her efforts are a replication of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo's transformative governance model in Idemili-South Local Government Area. 


The State commissioner for health Dr. Ben Afam Obidike, who commissioned the modern staff quarters at Umunocha Primary Healthcare Centre, described the building as massive and congratulated the local government chairman, saying that she has done numerous projects in Primary Healthcare Facilities. 


Obidike however revealed that the state government plans to build 15 new staff quarters in Primary Healthcare Facilities across the 21 local government areas in the state inorder to encourage the medical staff to be sleeping in the hospitals so they can take care of emergencies. 


President-General of Awka-Etiti Improvement Union Chief Emeka Ezeoke in his brief remarks at the commissioning ceremony, attested to the fact that Hon. Mrs. Amaka Obi is commissioning projects across Idemili-South Local Government Area. 


Ezeoke equally confirmed that the projects are projects that are most felt like the staff quarters built by her administration at Umunocha Primary Healthcare Centre Awka-Etiti ward 2. 


Meanwhile the Officer-In-Charge of Awka-Etiti 2 Umunocha Primary Healthcare Centre, Mrs. Ezechukwu Apollonia, a chief nursing officer, said it has been very hectic for doctors and nurses to cope without accommodations at the hospital. 


She recalled that when she came to Umunocha Primary Healthcare Centre on transfer, she had to device a makeshift accommodation to make sure that the facility ran 24hours service. 


The OIC however pointed out that the local government chairman saw the urgent need to construct the staff quarters to help boost their work and also guarantee job satisfaction. 


Shortly after the commissioning ceremony of Doctors and Nurses Quarters at Umunocha Primary Healthcare Centre, Idemili-South council boss Dr. Mrs. Amaka Obi also led the health commissioner on an inspection tour of the Dental Health facility under construction at general hospital Nkorofia Awka-Etiti to ascertain progress of work.
