RAYMOND OZOJI reports
The Anambra state commissioner for health, Dr. Ben Afam Obidike has expressed deep concerns over the desperation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to rubbish and ridicule the efforts of the Soludo administration in providing unhindered access to quality and comprehensive healthcare services to the citizens especially those in the hinterlands.
The commissioner's position is coming on the heels of a recent futile expedition by the APC media goons to the newly commissioned ultramodern, state-of-the-art General Hospital Anaku (Solution General Hospital Anaku) in Ayamelum Local Government Area of the state; where the said APC media recruits made false videos of the hospital being under lock and key devoid of any activity whatsoever.
This according to the commissioner was propaganda taken too far because the day the APC's emissaries of rifts came to the hospital to make the videos, all the departments in the hospital were busy with doctors and nurses attending to patients as confirmed by the Chief Medical Director of the hospital Rev. Sister Theophanes Aguluka Anthonia and the security man who identified himself as Nwadinobi Chinemeze Moses.
Obidike who recalled the terrible experiences witnessed during the construction of the hospital, maintained that the first contractor handling the hospital building project abandoned it and absconded because materials procured for the project were being stolen on regular basis coupled with threats to his life by those frustrating the hospital project.
According to Obidike, the hospital has witnessed a steady stream flow of patients trooping in and out of the facility since it was commissioned by Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo on 23rd October this year thereby making it one of the five newly built general hospitals in Anambra-North senatorial district alone.
The health commissioner who told this journalist that he personally embarked on an unscheduled visit to the hospital to ascertain APC's claims of it being under lock and key after commissioning by the governor, said APC's social media writers' despondency and malignancy were clearly evident in their malicious attempts to discredit the governor as well as create wrong impressions.
The commissioner stated that as at 25th October, about five major surgeries have been conducted in the hospital including the very first newborn baby that was also delivered successfully in the hospital, adding that everything must not be politicized especially when it concerns health of the citizenry.
Although the commissioner described APC's blatant lies and deliberate falsehoods against the newly commissioned Solution General Hospital Anaku as efforts in futility, stated that the hospital is of strategic importance to the Ayamelum people and Ndi-Anambra at large.
Meanwhile the security man at the newly commissioned Solution General Hospital Anaku, Mr. Nwadinobi Chinemeze Moses, equally confirmed to this journalist that it was a typical lie that the hospital was inactive after commissioning by the governor.
Nwadinobi a native of Anaku who wondered why his people were playing dirty politics with the new general hospital, said he was perplexed that his people in Ayamelum could play politics with such a magnificent edifice.
He also disclosed that since the governor officially opened the hospital for public use, there has never been a day without doctors and nurses attending to patients, adding that doctors and nurses slept in the hospital just to ensure 24hours service delivery.
He said that apart from him, two extra security operatives were assigned to the hospital for maximum security coverage especially at nights because the hospital, according to him, operated round the clock.
The security operative who further disclosed that nobody consulted him or the Chief Medical Director of the hospital for information on the functionality of the general hospital, maintained that he can not fathom the reason Ayamelum people doesn't want the hospital to succeed.
He therefore corroborated the fact that people tried in vain to frustrate the building of the hospital coupled with the fact that the first contractor handling it, abandoned it and ran away due to incessant stealing of the building materials and threats to his life.
He said that the opposition is not happy that the hospital eventually saw the light of the day despite attempts to destabilize and frustrate the building process.
The security man equally confirmed that the newly commissioned Solution General Hospital Anaku has been operational since inception on 23rd October this year and that rural dwellers have been receiving what he described as comprehensive medical care with some patients undergoing major surgeries while the hospital welcomed the very first child that was delivered on 25th October this year in the facility.
