RAYMOND OZOJI reports
Anambra State Governor Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has described candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 8th governorship election Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu as a thug worse than motor park touts.
Soludo who stated this at Nanka in Orumba-North Local Government Area of the state on Sunday during a mega rally convened by Hon. Chief Okwudili Christopher Ezenwankwo, a former member of the House of Representatives who represented Orumba-North and South, told the mammoth crowd who listened to him with avid attention that Ukachukwu reduced himself to a motor park tout when he beat and molested his Commissioner for Environment during the August 16th bye-elections in Nnewi-South Local Government Area of the state.
Soludo said it is very appalling that someone who is aspiring to govern a state could reduce himself to such a despicable manner, resort to physical combat and aided by his numerous thugs just to prove to his Abuja sponsors that he could win elections in Anambra State when he hasn't won any since 2003 he started contesting.
The governor who thanked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and all the security agencies for the peaceful conduct of the bye-elections in the state, said there was a level playing field for all the candidates in the elections.
He said the August 16th bye-elections were a situation where the people voted and their votes were counted and not the one the APC candidate would take truckloads of thugs and armed forces to slap people, beat them up and snatch ballot boxes with bribes here and there to enable them write the results.
The governor said that the APC gubernatorial candidate has been in crisis with his home community Osumenyi in Nnewi-South Local Government Area of the state and he knew that if the people were allowed to vote, they will never vote for him.
Soludo said that what the APC governorship candidate does in every election is to go with thugs; beat up everybody and carry ballot boxes away and write the results, stressing that every election, he would bring out some thousands of votes from the two wards of his community Osumenyi.
Soludo stated that Ukachukwu has never won any election and he would never allow the people to vote. But according to him, for the first time, both INEC, the Police and the great people of Anambra State said enough is enough !
The governor stated that the results of the senatorial bye-election showed that APGA won in all the 118 wards of the 7 local government areas of Anambra-South and that from the votes cast, APGA secured over 90 thousand votes, emphasizing that APGA broke history with the outcome of the election.
The governor reiterated that the APC gubernatorial candidate took thugs and went about slapping and beating people including his Commissioner for Environment but his own community rose up against him and made a bold statement that enough is enough !
The governor disclosed that APGA beat him in the polling boot in front of his house in Osumenyi and that in the whole ward one and ward two of Osumenyi where the governor allegedly claimed that the APC gubernatorial candidate used to write thousands of votes for every election, APGA crushed him too.
He said APGA defeated Ukachukwu in his community, defeated him in Nnewi-South his local government area and defeated him in the entire Anambra-South senatorial district even as he pointed out that the APC gubernatorial candidate said it was going to be a do or die affair to define his pathway for the November 8th governorship election.
Soludo therefore appreciated the efforts of INEC and all the security agencies for providing a level playing field for all the contestants in the bye-elections, noting that Anambra State would be an eloquent example for INEC to showcase what it means to have transparent and credible election.
