ACTDA Enforces Cleanliness In Awka, As People Return For Christmas, New Year Celebrations

RAYMOND OZOJI reports

The Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) has intensified enforcements on the cleanliness of the capital city as influx of people returning to the state for Christmas and New Year celebrations heighten.

Also the capital territory Awka is wearing a befitting look and in the Christmas mood because ACTDA has embarked on desilting of drainages, clamped down on street traders, beggars and street urchins constituting menace to the general public.

Speaking to this journalist exclusively, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) Dr. Ossy Onuko, said Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has packaged programmes to excite and entertain Ndi-Anambra especially those returning from different parts of the world to celebrate the birth of Christ in Anambra State.

Onuko disclosed that government would be organizing massive entertainment shows which would begin from 18th December to be followed by the State's Christmas Carol on 20th December. He said thereafter there would be masquerade festival as well as the homecoming of Mr. Flavour, one of Africa's best performing acts.

The ACTDA boss stated that most importantly the governor's efforts in the area of security would be showcased because the governor, according to him, has done a lot in ensuring that the people slept with their two eyes closed. That the governor has also invested a lot to ensure hitch-free festivities this period.

He explained that from all indications, Anambra State is fully ready for all who wish to come and savour the developmental strides of the governor especially with the dualisation of roads across the state, adding that the governor has upgraded the Awka city stadium to a standard the people hasn't seen before.

Onuko said today there is a standard multipurpose arena developed by the governor in the Awka city stadium. This he said would be the largest event arena in the whole of Southeast. He was therefore of the opinion that ACTDA would ensure that Awka where most of the events will take place is fully ready for the funfare.

According to him, ACTDA has embarked on massive cleaning and desilting of drainages; carried out enforcements against people trading on the roads; evacuation and management of beggars and street urchins, so they don't constitute public nuisance to people this festive season.
