Anambra State House of Assembly Committee Chairman on Nutrition and Food Security, Hon. Barr. Jude Ifeanyi Umennajiego, has said that his major priority at the moment is to alleviate the hardships and sufferings of flood victims in his constituency.
Umennajiego who represents Onitsha-South 2 state constituency, said in an exclusive interview with this journalist that places like Bida, Nnewi, Emodi and some other streets in his constituency have been completely ravaged by this year's flood disaster.
He said properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed by the menacing flood and victims have fled from their homes to save their families from drowning in the deluge.
Although the lawmaker stated that he has reached out to the Commissioner for Environment whom he said has visited his constituency for an on-the-spot impact assessment of the flood menace in the area while they await government response.
The lawmaker further disclosed that he also got distress calls from other parts of his constituency, noting that he would give prime attention to other places that were affected by the flood as he would consistently make cases for them to ensure that their plights and sufferings were alleviated and that the causes of the flooding were put to a permanent stop.
Apart from attending to flood victims, Umennajiego equally informed that he would deploy his third year recess to reaching out to his constituents through programmes and projects as always to solving their problems as well as educating them on the policies and programmes of the government in order for them to key in for their own benefits.
