Federal Cooperative College Oji River Organises Staff Reorientation On Emerging Trends In Public Service

RAYMOND OZOJI reports

The Federal Cooperative College Oji River Enugu State has organized a one-day interactive reorientation course for her entire workforce aimed at keeping them abreast with new trends and changes in government policies with emphasis on public service rules and regulations.

The one-day interactive session which was held at the college multipurpose auditorium was very impactful as it afforded staff members ample time to acquaint themselves with emerging trends in the public service. It was indeed a platform for cross pollination and cross fertilisation of ideas.

Addressing the college workforce, Provost of the Federal Cooperative College Oji River Dr. Jude Ejikeme Obidiegwu said it was necessary to hold such routine exercises so as to prepare them irrespective of the number of years they have spent in the service.

Obidiegwu further underscored the importance of the staff reorientation programme, saying that policies keep changing and government directives keep changing to meet global demands and global markets, adding that what the management is doing is to keep every staff a tuned with trends and changes, so that the college would be able to meet her mandate collectively while adding value to the public the college is serving.

The Provost equally told the staff members in attendance that part of the reason for the routine exercise was to acquaint them with the plans to introduce new academic programmes because the college, according to him, is expanding to have more visibility and impact in Nigeria and beyond.

He said plans have been concluded to bring in five new departments to compliment the already existing seven departments in the college at National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) levels respectively.

He said it was a family meeting intended to acquaint staff with management plans and management reforms as he believes that leadership is all about interactions.

Internal auditor of the college Mr. Daniel Okeze, who was represented by Ajibola Adebisi, the college principal registrar Mr. Obinna Ezeano, the college Bursar Mr. Mohammed Ocheja and some other management staff who spoke at the one-day staff reorientation programme stressed the need for cooperation and teamwork amongst the workers while refraining from fraud and corrupt practices which are inimical and detrimental to the rules of engagement in public service.

The one-day routine staff reorientation course which featured question and answer session afforded the college Provost Dr. Jude Ejikeme Obidiegwu ample opportunity to address concerns of the staff membership.
