The Coordinator of the Awlaw Strategic Development Initiative, Mr. Imah Felix, was attacked by thugs wielding dangerous weapons on Wednesday evening in his village.
The incident occurred at about 6:35 p.m. around the Sir G.T.N. Tabansi Civic Centre in Ubaha, Awlaw, Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State.
In a Save Our Soul (SOS) message sent to journalists at the scene, Mr. Imah alleged that he had received intelligence on Tuesday about a plot to attack him. He said he was warned by party officials not to come close to his village but decided to go home, citing his right to freedom of movement as guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution.
“At about 6:35 p.m. today, Wednesday, the Senior Legislative Assistant to Senator Osita Ngwu in Awlaw, Mr. Merit Akasieme Umebuani, and some other persons drove in from Enugu and attacked me. They attacked me at Afor Ubah, beat me up, took a video of what they were doing to me and possibly sent it to their paymaster, notifying him that their mission had been accomplished,” Imah said.
On what he intends to do next, Mr. Imah said he has notified law enforcement agencies and expects the law to take its course.
“Nigeria is governed by law and nobody is above the law. The persons who attacked me are known, and they are not pretending about their intentions to take me out,” he stressed.
Mr. Imah, who is also the Founder of the Centre for Strategic Leadership and Youth Orientation (CENSTLEYO), vowed that no amount of attack, intimidation and harassment would stop him from advancing the cause of the Awlaw people.
All efforts to get the reaction of the Senior Legislative Assistant to Sen Osita Ngwu, Mr. Merit Akasieme Umebuani’s reaction to the allegation were unsuccessful, as he did not take calls placed to his phone by our correspondent as of the time of filing this report.
